Course unit content

<br />Structure, history and services of the public library. The course will focus on the reasons behind the existence of public libraries as a sign of civilisation. <br />
Following a discussion of the birth and existence of libraries over the centuries, documents relating to the history and organisation of the public library will be presented. <br />

History of the library. Functions and services of the public library. The OPAC <br />

Students must know the general outline of the history of the main libraries in Italy and abroad and the principle cataloging tools available on-line and in printed form. <br />

Independent reading of materials distributed and photocopied handouts during the course of the lectures.
