Learning objectives

The course is intended to give a general knowledge on polymers and on the most relevant aspects of the use of synthetic polymers in the field of biotechnology.

Definitions, nomenclature; main properties; crystallinity, solubility, melting point, glass transition point; distribution of molecular masses; structures of polymers; conformation and configuration. Mechanical and reological properties.
Polymer synthesis and polymerization processes.
