Knowledege of Greek and Latin language

Course unit content

From Nea to Palliata: Menander and terentian comedy. During the xxth century, the discovery of many papyri enabled to build up a rich menandrean corpus. Nevertheless, we can't read only a small number of verses of the Greek comedies used by Plautus and Terence for their plays. The course will focus on some Greek passages of indirect or direct tradition which can be related to Terence's comedies, so highlighting the differences of mood and style between the Greek and the Latin poet.
