Learning objectives

The course presents polymeric-based materials that are finding increased applicability in industry, namely technical polymers and polymer-based composites. Specific design methods and technology requirements are introduced and applied to real cases.

Polymeric materials (classification, standards, methods of physical and mechanical characterization, the main properties)
Production technologies (Overview, applications)
injection molding process (process modeling, molds and their power and cooling, process variables)

Design for manufacturing and assembly (joining methods, snap fit)
Polymer matrix composite materials (classification, standards, methods of physical and mechanical characterization, the main properties)
