Learning objectives

Students, at the end of the course, will be able to:
- translate into standard French literary and specific language texts
- understand (comprehend) literary and specific language written texts (through skimming and scanning techniques)
- understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit
- meaning.
- understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract
- understand a variety of oral texts (e.g. dialogues, TV Programs etc.)
- understand with ease virtually everything heard or read.
- summarize information from different spoken and written sources,
- reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation.
- express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely,
- differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.
- use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional
- purposes.
- produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing
controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.(e.g. Synthesis

Course unit content

The LT3 course is aimed at the C1 level and it provides contents and skills in terms of:
1)Translation (from Italian into French)
2) Oral and written comprehension (Dictation as well)
3)Writing skills (e.g. Synthesis)

Assessment methods and criteria

The final exams consist in four written tests ( Translation, Oral Comprehension, Dictation and Written Production-Synthesis) and in an oral exam. Students have access to the oral exam ONLY if they have successfully passed the written tests.
- Synyhesis is an original written production based on a range of documents (usually 3/4 texts and/or images, pictures, articles etc.) It consists in reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation.

The oral exam will be focused on
- Discussion about written tests results
- Knowledge, contents and skills
- Semantic and pragmatic aspects
- Presentation of an original written work (Synthesis)
