Learning objectives

In unit A, the course has been designed to provide both the literary and
linguistic bases of Romance philology, mecessary for students in the
Literary Culture course; through the analysis of a specific text, the more
specialised unit B will provide students with the methodological
tools they require for independent study of Old rpmance literature and
textual criticism.

Course unit content

The course is divided into two units: Unit A: introductory in
nature, with readings of a number of occitan pastourelles; unit B: a detailed survey of provençal lyric with special attention paid to the pastourelles, together with grammar of old occitan

In unit A, the course has been designed to provide both the literary and
linguistic bases of Romance philology, indispensable for students in the
Literary Culture course; through the analysis of a specific text, the more
specialised unit B will provide students  with the methodological
tools they require for independent study of Old French literature and
textual criticism.

Bibliography

The course is divided into two units: Unit A: primarily introductory in
nature, with readings of a number of extracts of the Folies and elements
of the history of Old French grammar; unit B: a specialised unit on the
Folies Tristan and more in-depth study of grammatical history
