Learning objectives
Introduction to understanding the fundamental dynamics of human communication in a sociological perspective, on a theoretical level, in terms of its historical transformations throughout human history, in terms of its current problems, due to the emergence for the first time in human history of a global society, whose boundaries coincide with those of the planet: the world-society. Introduction to the Gregort Bateson's ecological theory of knowledge and socio-constructivist theory of communication of Barnett Pearce, called "coordinated management of meanings."
Introduction to the understanding of the cultural challenges that the world-society is putting to the human subjectivity, with particular reference to the European context. Introduction to the bio-psycho-socio-anthropological theory of subject of Edgar Morin.
Prerequisites
Secondary school leaving certificate.
Course unit content
Forms of knowledge and communication in the world-society.
The lessons will be divided into two parts: the first is theorethical (February-March), the second is monographic
(April-May). The first part will discuss the social bases of human communication. The second part will develop the argument, with reference to
the global and european cultural processes, in reference to the work of French social scientist Edgar Morin.

Teaching methods
Lectures and discussion. Interactive tutorials. Use of power point slides. Assign small observation tasks.
Assessment methods and criteria
> Written tests, oral exam option.
> The written test consists of 4 open-ended questions every 6 CFU - time: 45 minutes.
> Oral: permitted to those who have achieved a minimum score of 24/30 in the written test, the date of registration and of the oral exam will communicated on the day of written test (usually one week later, but depends on the number of tests to be corrected).
> The addition of the honours to the score of 30/30 requires in any case the oral exam; on the written test will only
reported the possibility of obtaining also the praise, in the event of significant personalization (see below) of the answers.
> The absence or severe lack of answers about only one of the exam papers automatically lead to an "insufficient" global score.
CRITERIA FOR THE EVALUATION OF WRITTEN TESTS
1. Understanding of texts: up to 10/30
2. Comprehension of texts: up to 10/30
3. Clarity (including grammar): up to 10/30
4. Degree of personalization: up to 3/30
If the final score is more than 30/30, the addition of the honours will possible.
