Course unit content

Definition of hygiene, Public Health: divisions and aims
Concept of health
General epidemiology of infectious diseases: host-parasite relationships, sources and reservoirs of infection, modes of transmission, modes of emergence of the infections in the population.
Types and levels of preventive intervention: notification, quarantine measures, diagnostic investigation of infectious diseases, sterilisation, disinfection and disinfestation. Vaccine prophylaxis, types of vaccine, vaccine strategies and schedules. Passive immunoprophylaxis and chemoprophylaxis.
Main prevention principles for non infectious diseases.
