Learning objectives

The course aims to consolidate the methodological training of students in the practical application of techniques of empirical research, both quantitative and qualitative. You will then resumed and deepened, with a cut heavily application, themes and methods introduced in the first year.
It will, in particular, expanded the capacity to implement the critical analysis of the literature nursing and midwifery national and international level and to develop and / or use the research tools for the study of phenomena in different areas of practice.
It also aims to enable students to illustrate the main alternative to setting an empirical investigation (research design) on the basis of the initial hypotheses and theoretical approaches alternatives available.
The course aims to finally make the students knowledge on the theoretical concepts and tools for statistical analysis and the definition of indicators aimed at understanding and evaluation of the phenomena and social services - health. Thanks to a teaching based also means of examples, the student will develop the ability to apply the concepts learned, using the methods of enabling the construction of indicators for the analysis of the demand of citizens at the local level and the evaluation of services and projects. At the end of the course, therefore, the student will be able to use the integrated systems of indicators for the evaluation of the socio - health.
The systematic approach to databases in health care settings and social health will help to achieve these objectives.

Prerequisites

The examination of "Methods of research nursing and midwifery 2" can only be taken after the completion of the tests of "Methods of research nursing and midwifery 1" and "Epidemiological methods of study, planning and evaluation of health services."

Course unit content

Acquisition of tools that allow the analysis and evaluation of phenomena and social and health services.
Techniques of data collection: the preparation of the questionnaire to the different types of interview.
Quantitative scales: Likert, semantic differential.
Construction and validation of the stairs.
Official statistical sources. Writing a scientific article. Critical analysis of research papers nursing-midwifery.
Clinical Evidence Clinical Practice.
Drafting of an original thesis: from the problem to the presentation of the results.
Biomedical resources, online databases, PubMed, CINAHL.

Teaching methods

Some of the lessons will be conducted by means of interactive lectures, even with the use of audiovisual aids. Will be fostered and encouraged discussion in the classroom with the students to the issues raised. The teaching methodology of the course also provides the performance, through individual and group work, exercises on data context for the construction of evaluation systems. Particular attention will be devoted to the teaching of critical analysis of research papers.

Assessment methods and criteria

The degree of preparation is checked by oral examination including the assessment of the thesis project and the critical analysis of a research article.

Students must attend at least 50% of class hours.
