Learning objectives
1) Knowledge and understanding
This module aims at providing students with basic knowledge and understanding of:
- transformer operation and design
- electro-mechanical energy conversion
- asynchronous AC electrical machine operation
2) Applying knowledge and understanding
This module aims at providing students with the ability of:
- solving simple problems involving the analysis and design of transformers
- solving simple problems involving the analysis and design of asynchronous AC electrical machines
Prerequisites
Students should be familiar with the concepts taught in the electrical engineering course of year 2 (Principi ed applicazioni dell'ingegneria elettrica)
Course unit content
1) Single-phase transformer
2) Three-phase transformer
3) Electro-mechanical energy conversion
4) Asynchronous AC electrical machines
Full programme
1) Single-phase transformer
Equations, equivalent circuits, operation as impedance adapter, operation in converter circuits, variable-frequency operation, design concepts.
2) Three-phase transformer
Connection between phases, operation in converter circuits.
3) Electro-mechanical energy conversion
Electro-mechanical energy transformation.
4) Aynchronous AC electrical machines
Asynchronous AC electrical machines: equations: equations, electrical and mechanical characteristics, velocity regulation
