Learning objectives

The main purpose of the course is the graded learning of the GIS (Geographic Information System) GRASS (Geographical Resources Analysis Support System) an open source pubblic domain system particularly eligible for an educational use.
The course is mainly developed through practical exercises.
After the basic commands for maps display and analysis the digitizing operations are performed. Many practical applications of a GIS are experimented along the course.

General characteristics of a GIS (Geographic Information System)
Specific Characteristics of the GIS GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System)
The main GRASS commands:
for the management of the work environment:
for the management of raster maps;
le carte raster;
for the management of vector maps;
for the management of database.
Construction of a shell script.
Digitizing environment: the v.digit command.
Data importing.

The course is carried out nearly exclusively through practical exercises at the computer.

Execution of an exercise in order to assess the level of knowledge of the GRASS GIS.
