Integrated course unit module: TEACHING AND HISTORY OF ITALIAN

Learning objectives

The guidelines of the method and the means useful to read a medieval literary text coming from the Lombard area, from the linguistic and rhetorical points of view, will be given. The students should be able to apply the analysis to other Italian medieval texts and to orient themselves, with a certain amount of security, inside the medieval period of our history of the language.

Course unit content

The lessons, in the master classes, concern “The old vernacular in Milan and the Bonvensin da la Riva’s poetical works”. They want to examine the characteristic features of the old Lombard language between the 13th and 14th centuries studied through the evidence of the greatest poet of that period.

Teaching methods

At first, introductory face to face lessons will be given then the reading of Bonvensin’s texts followed by their linguistic, literary and rhetorical analysis

Assessment methods and criteria

Tests are not foreseen during the semester.
Classes will end with a final oral test on the tests read during the lessons.
In order to reach the minimum level for a positive evaluation the students should be able to paraphrase the texts and know the principle characteristics of the old Milanese language
