Learning objectives

The course aims to provide a basic knowledge of the main currents and personalities of the XX century art, through the lens of a historical analysis useful to favor students’ learning.

Course unit content

The course will focus on the Impressionist research and its relation with the new art of photography in France. It will be developed through the academic traditions and, on the other side, the historical avant-garde, till the most recent art tendencies. The course will follow the historical development always integrating the analysis of images with the reading of literary texts.

Teaching methods

During lectures we will discuss matters related to the history of contemporary art and the most relevant artistic currents. The course will be characterized by the integrated study of images and critical texts, and didactic trips will be organized.
