Integrated course unit module: CORE ARCHITECTURAL RESTORATION AND REUSE STUDIO

Learning objectives

The major aim of the course is to enable the student to make judgment,
have an historical and bibliographic instruments to be able to understand the theory of restoration. Undergraduate shall be able to: to make personal and mature judgements; use the appropriate technical language; understand the complexity of the practice of restoration.

Prerequisites

Teacher orientated lessons with slides and documentary films; possibility
to visit museums and monumental sites.

Course unit content

HISTORy'S USEFULNESS AND DAMAGE FOR RESTAURATION (10 hours, 1 CFU)
Aim of the course is to offer some theoretical comments in order to the
benefits and the danger in the use of the history of architecture in the
architectural restoration. Restorers’ attitude towards architectural
heritage changes according to the cultural environment; analysis of some
examples, from Antiquity towards XX century, offers interesting cases for
reflection to improve the know-how.
