Learning objectives


At the end of the course the student should have acquired knowledges and competences in the interpersonal communication analysis. In particular, the student should have gained:
1) The ability to understand and address the specific topics related to the interpersonal communication
2) The ability to use and apply the knowledges offered by the Psychology of interpersonal communication to the professional context
3) Indipendent judgement and critical approach to the issues addressed during the course
4) The ability to describe and discuss critically the different theoretical approaches used in the study of interpersonal communicative processes.
5) The ability to critically analyze the results of the research in the field of Psychology of interpersonal communication

Prerequisites


Foundations of Social Psychology

Course unit content


During the course, the different perspectives of the Psychology of Interpersonal Communication (theory, research and application) will be presented and discussed. Through an in-depth analysis of the pragmatic and of the socio-constructionist approaches, the following topics will be addressed: levels and contexts of communication, paradoxes and double binds, the management of interpersonal conflicts, with particular reference to the family communication.

Teaching methods


the course will include frontal lessons, group work, vision and analysis of video-clips, group works and discussions

Assessment methods and criteria


Examinations will be oral in order to assess the knowledge and skills acquired, the students’ independent judgment, their ability to communicate and to apply those skills to reality.
The performance of the student will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
Content: How much in detail the topic is explained maximum score 8
Language. How precise is the language used to explain the constructs. maximum score 7
Reasoning. How coherent is the concatenation of the concepts presented maximum score 8
Dialogic competence. How students show to be able to integrate external inputs into their presentation maximum score 7
The final grade is calculated on the sum of the score obtained in each of the above areas.
