Professional outlets

The main objective of the study course in Biology is to provide you with the necessary methodologies and basic knowledge that can be used for access to subsequent study paths, without however precluding direct access to the world of work.

After graduation

Junior Biologist Functions Three-year Biology graduates can register, after passing the State Examination for Junior Biologist, in section B of the Register of Biologists. The professional figure is defined by the current national legislation implemented by the National Order of Biologists, which certifies the professionalism of the Junior Biologist. Specific competences in the profession of junior biologist imply the ability to carry out one's work independently, but without being a coordinator. In order to reach higher levels of responsibility, it is necessary to acquire additional skills through further training. In particular, three-year Biology graduates can access Professional Master Programme - first-level (1 year) or Master's degree courses in the LM-6 Biology class and related classes and then, after passing the Biologist State Examination, enrol in section A of the Register of Biologists.
The professional activity of Biology graduates enrolled in the Register of Biologists, section B (Law no. 396 of 24 May 1967, DECREE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC no. 328 of 5 June 2001) can be carried out in various fields of application, such as production and technological laboratory activities (bio-health, industrial, veterinary, food and biotechnology, public and private research and service organizations) and services at the level of analysis, control and management. In particular, the main tasks and activities relate to analytical-instrumental procedures connected with biological investigations; technical-analytical investigations in the biotechnological, biomolecular and biomedical fields, also aimed at research activities; technical-analytical and control investigations in the field of prevention-conservation-restoration of the environment and biodiversity; technical-analytical investigations in the chemical-physical, biochemical, microbiological, toxicological, pharmacological and genetic fields; quality control procedures in general.
Competences - Operational and applicative competences and skills in the field of biology, with particular reference to technical procedures of biological and instrumental wide-ranging analysis, both for research and for monitoring and control activities; - Ability to work in a team, to operate with defined degrees of autonomy and to fit readily into working environments - Possession of skills and tools for communication and information management, including the ability to use effectively, in written and oral form, at least one language of the European Union, in addition to Italian, for the exchange of general information in the specific field of competence; - Possession of basic cognitive tools for the continuous updating of one's knowledge.
Opportunities The Biology degree course aims to provide graduates with the professional profiles of technical professions in the life sciences, giving them the skills to qualify as junior biologists. The three-year graduate will be able to find employment in food, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and in clinical and environmental biological testing institutes.
