Learning objectives
Provide basic concepts in general hygiene pertaining to the diffusion of infectious and non-infectious diseases from exposure in a professional context and the instruments necessary for risk evaluation.
Course unit content
<br />General Epidemiology of infectious diseases. Sources of infection and transmission modes.<br />Infections of particular professional interest: orofecal transmission, hematic transmission and trauma-related infections (HAV, S.typhi; HBV, HDV, HCV; tetanus)<br />Direct prophylaxis of infectious diseases intervening at the source, intervening on carriers and vectors, active and passive immunoprophylaxis<br />Possibility of preventive vaccine: vaccines and vaccine strategies for HAV, S.typhi, HBV,HDV, HCV and tetanus.<br />Epidemiology and prevention of non-infective disease of social relevance.<br />Environmental hygiene: Physical, chemical and biological contaminants and their toxicological aspects.<br />Water hygiene: Physical, chemical and microbiologic criteria; treatments to make water drinkable.<br />Waste water: biological treatment systems<br />Solid waste: treatment and disposal systems<br />Air pollution: principal contaminants and their impact on human health
