The course will provide students with basic notions of general pharmacology, regarding pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics with regard, in particular, to the mechanism of action of the drugs, the receptors, the concept of agonist and antagonist, the therapeutic index , absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion. The student should also know the drugs acting on the central, autonomic and somatic nervous system, adrenergic and cholinergic drugs, the antiseptics and disinfectants, the drugs acting on gastrointestinal functions, the mechanism of action of the most important classes of chemotherapeutic agents and the phenomenon of drug resistance. The course will provide students with notions of general toxicology regarding the toxicodynamics and toxicokinetics of certain classes of drugs. The student should also know the mechanism of action of: mycotoxins, rodenticides, the most commonly used pesticides and know about the phenomenon of doping in sport.
