Integrated course unit module: SOCIAL NEUROSCIENCE

Learning objectives

The student will acquire basic knowledge on the neurobiological bases of intersubjectivity. The student will also learn about the possible application of this model of intersubjectivity to the domains of psychopathology and aesthetics.some p

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge on the functions of the central nervous system and on the oerganization of sensory-motor systems.

Course unit content

The course will address the issue of the bodily self, of intersubjectivity and empathy from theoretical and neuroscientific perspectives. The model of Embodied Simulation will be introduced and its functional properties discussed.

Full programme

During the course the following topics will be addressed: Action, Perception and Cognition; The standard cognitive model of intersubjectivity; Theory of mind as Theory-theory or Simulation Theory; Motor cognition; Bodily self as motor potentiality; the bodily self, space and objects; mirror neurons and mirror mechanisms; Embodied simulation; art, aesthetic experience and empathy: embodied simulation and experimental aesthetics; the loss of the natural evidence of the world: bodily self, trauma and psychosis.
