Why in Parma?
The single-cycle degree program in Innovative and Sustainable Animal Production is for Italian and foreign students interested in animal production themes. The educational objectives meet the need to create professionals in the agro-zootechnical field equipped with advanced technical and scientific skills in all stages of the food chain of animal origin: feed production, livestock breeding, processing, labeling and certification of processed products.
The training is designed to provide in-depth knowledge in the technical management of livestock farms - respecting animal welfare and biodiversity - and processing and certification processes. The cultural approach is one of innovation and multidisciplinarity, and is geared toward improving sustainability in its broadest sense (economic, social and environmental).
In the first year, we will address subjects on the primary stage of the food chain of animal origin (animal husbandry, food and nutrition, genetic improvement, infectious diseases, reproductive physiology, pharmacology). In the second year the courses will focus on disciplines related to processing, marketing and certification of products of animal origin (food labeling and certification, food chemistry and microbiology, processing technology). Course programs in both years will be shaped from the standpoint of technical and scientific innovation to ensure the sustainability (environmental, economic and social) of supply chains, the protection of animal health and welfare, and the preservation of biodiversity.
