Course unit structured in the following modules:

Learning objectives

Provide students with basic theoretical/practical elements to enable them to take a systematic and rational approach to diagnosis and oral rehabilitation therapy with fixed and removable prostheses, both partial and total, so that they are able to design and realise the most commonly used prosthetic devices.

Prerequisites

Have passed all the previous years' exams and the exam in Periodontology and Implantology

Course unit content

Preparation of total crowns. Full metal crowns. Veneer Crowns. Ceramo-metal crowns. Metal free ceramic crowns. Practical activities. Total crown preparation by the students on mannequins. Aesthetng1024 ic principles in prosthetic dentistry. Definitions. Respect of proportions and integration with natural teeth: shape, colour, optical characteristics. Aesthetics of soft tissue. Treatment techniques for soft periodontal tissue and edentulous ridges. All ceram total crowns: materials, clinical and laboratory phases. Metal free partial restorations: Laminates and inlays. Clinical and laboratory phases. Adhesive cementing. Temporary fixed prostheses: materials and techniques. Therapeutic use of temporary prostheses. Direct and indirect methods. Reinforced temporary prostheses. Laboratory phases for the construction of a temporary prosthesis. Delivery of the temporary prosthesis. Cementing. Practical activities: The various phases of realisation of a temporary prosthesis. Implant prosthesis. The impression. Casting of models and the use of laboratory analogues. Abutments. Drawing of the metal strip. Aesthetic coating. Restoration of a single tooth. Partial edentulism. Total edentulism. Impression. Impression trays. Impression materials. Clinical procedures for fixed prosthesis impressions. Work models and removable abutments. Casting of models, preparation of removable abutments. Laboratory phases for the realisation of fixed prostheses. Wax modelling. Coating and melting. Casting finishing techniques. Ceramization. Aesthetic coating finishing techniques. Polishing and cementing. Finishing, polishing, occlusal adjustment, edge finishing, cementing, fixing cements. Temporary bridge elements. Weldings and connectors. Removable partial prosthesis. Psychology. Anatomy and physiology of the mobile prosthesis. The oral environment (bone, mucosa, musculature and saliva). Diagnosis and preliminary impressions. The making of the single impression tray. Periphery wax and final impressions. Making of the occlusal plates and occlusal rims. Posterior palatal seal and limit. Face bow transfer. Vertical dimension of occlusion. Centric relation. Choice and mounting of artificial teeth. Testing. Re-mounting. Delivery. Controls and adjustments. Relining of the prosthesis. Repairing of the prosthesis. Balanced occlusion. The overdenture. Practical activities: realisation of total prostheses by carrying out the various laboratory phases on plaster models. Clinical practice on the patient according to therapeutic requirements.
