Learning objectives
At the end of the course the student should know the fundamentals necessary to the evaluation of building energy performances.
Applying knowledge and understanding:
At the end of the course the student should have acquired applied knowledge on building energy design. He must also know the main reference standards and regulations.
Making judgments:
By the end of the course the student should be able to evaluate building energy performances and to choice techniques, materials, and technologies which enable to reduce building energy consumptions.
Communication skills:
The student should be able to clearly present the acquired knowledge.
Prerequisites
In order to follow the course with profit requires knowledge of the basic concepts of Applied Physics.
Course unit content
The course is aimed at providing specific expertise on the buildings energy performances. The first part of the course consists of seminars focused on the analysis of the main parameters that affect the buildings energy performances in order to evaluate the possible energy conservation measures.
The activity is completed with a project work to be carried out in the second part of the course under the supervision of a tutor, teacher of the course.
Full programme
Introduction to the main reference standards and regulations on building Energy performances.
Analysis of thermophysical parameters of the building envelope.
Examples of high performance building techniques, materials, and technologies.
Calculation method of the efficiency of the systems for space heating and domestic hot water production.
Determining the building energy performances indices.
Minimum energy performance requirements for buildings established by regional regulation (Emilia-Romagna).
Bibliography
Reference standards: UNI/TS 11300 and related standards .
Teaching methods
The first part of the course consists of a series of seminars on evaluation of the building energy performances. The second part of the course is devoted to the project work to be performed under the supervision of teacher of the course. During the course guided tours to buildings with high energy performances.
Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment is performed both during the course, in meetings with the tutor for the discussion of the project work, and at the end of the course through the evaluation of the work, presented by the student with the help of Power Point software.
