Learning objectives

The course aims to enable students to know and understand the major maxillofacial diseases and to orientate on the appropriate surgical treatment.
This does not mean the direct transfer of this knowledge on a practical application (the maxillo-facial surgery is a discipline of medical relevance), but the capacity of the practitioner to identify diseases and direct patients to an expert for a correct solution.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
The students at the end of the course will demonstrate knowledge and understanding about:
- Dysmorphoses: maxillary retrusion, maxillary protrusion, mandibular retrusion, progenism, laterodeviation, open bite, macroglossia.
- Trauma: injuries of the face, jaw fractures, zygomatic, mandibular condylar fractures, craniofacialfractures, malconsolidation.
- Neoplasms: skin cancer of the face and lips, epithelial tumors of the oral cavity and jaws, Etiopathogenesis of carcinoma of the oral cavity, symptoms and signs of cancer and cervical metastases, combination therapies, staging; mesenchymal tumors; cysts and odontogenic tumors; salivary gland tumors; reconstructive surgery maxillofacial.
- Inflammatory processes: odontogenic maxillary sinusitis, oro-sinusal communications; salivary stones, sialadenitis.
- Temporomandibular joint syndrome: algico-dysfunctional temporomandibular joint ankylosis, recurrent dislocation, extra-articular mouth opening limitations
