Learning objectives
The study of respiratory function and the knowledge of the adaptations during exercise at high altitude and underwater. Asthma and exercise(prevention and pharmacological treatment). The tobacco smoke. The defense mechanisms of the airways.
Prerequisites
Background knowledge in Anatomy; General Pathology; Phisiology; Biochemistry is required
Course unit content
Respiratory function and physiological mechanisms. Physical activity and control mechanisms: nervous, mechanical, ventilation, gas diffusion and perfusion lung.
Means and evaluation: spirometry, pulse oximetry, blood gas analysis, 6 min walk test. Cooper test, stress test.
Respiratory function and regulation mechanisms under physiological conditions and during physical activity: nervous component, mechanical, ventilation, gas diffusion and perfusion lung.

Respiratory system: respiration and the nervous centers, the mechanics and the muscles of respiration, ventilation and pulmonary circulation. The study of respiratory function and the VO2ma; spirometry, arterial blood gas analysis; tests: Cooper, 6MWT; treadmill and cycle ergometer; bronchial asthma: Tobacco smoke and pathology and related.
